Honolulu Sunset &#8216;Wakida&#8217; AM\/AOS<\/p>\n<p>My first\u00a0 &#8220;division&#8221; from the mother plant winning the American Orchid Society Award of Merit.\u00a0 This plant it is not a mericlone.\u00a0 A mericlone is a plant propagated from a tissue culture taken from a desirable plant.\u00a0 A single mericlone can produce limitless clones.\u00a0 Mericlones often are slightly different because during the tissue culture in a lab, all kinds of hormones are used to cause the the cells to form either roots or growth and, regrettably, some damage can occur to the chromosomes during this treatment so that the resulting plants are not genetically 100% of the mother plant the tissue was taken from.\u00a0 For the most part, they bloom like the mother plant, but there is a risk of a genetic mutation.\u00a0 I had the opportunity to purchase some &#8220;divisions&#8221; from awarded plant.\u00a0 This division arrived two weeks ago with buds in sheath, so I cannot take credit for causing it to bloom.<\/p>\n<p>Blc. is the abbreviation for <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%C3%97_Brassolaeliocattleya\">Brassolaeliocattleya<\/a> which is an intergeneric hybrid.<\/p>\n<p><em>It is<\/em> gorgeous.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Blc.
