{"id":444,"date":"2026-02-09T12:45:28","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T20:45:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/salemdata.net\/johnpress\/?p=444"},"modified":"2026-02-09T16:56:57","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T00:56:57","slug":"lilygo-t-beam-supreme-case-comparison-cost-durability-and-field-practicality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/salemdata.net\/johnpress\/?p=444","title":{"rendered":"LilyGO T-Beam SUPREME Case Comparison: Cost, Durability, and Field Practicality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lilygo.cc\/en-us\/products\/t-beam-supreme?variant=43067943977141\">LilyGO T-Beam SUPREME<\/a> (L76K, 915 MHz, ~$41, specification <a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.lilygo.cc\/get_started\/en\/LoRa_GPS\/T-Beam-SUPREME\/T-Beam-SUPREME.html\">here<\/a>) is my choice for my <a href=\"https:\/\/reticulum.network\/\">Reticulum<\/a> mesh field test.\u00a0 The T-Beam SUPREME is a very versatile unit having an abundance of features, including GPS and SD card capability &#8212; good for logging field tests. The unit comes without a case, so you need to procure a case.\u00a0 LilyGO offers a case design at its GitHub page <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Xinyuan-LilyGO\/LilyGo-LoRa-Series\/tree\/master\/dimensions\">here<\/a>; the 3 STL files are inside a zip archive: &#8230;\/dimensions\/T-Beam-Supreme.zip\u00a0 Here is a 3D rendering of the case&#8217;s three STL files:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-445\" src=\"https:\/\/salemdata.net\/johnpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260203_194849_Tue-300x249.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"249\" srcset=\"https:\/\/salemdata.net\/johnpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260203_194849_Tue-300x249.png 300w, https:\/\/salemdata.net\/johnpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260203_194849_Tue.png 748w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A very colorful case made by user @TonyG at printables.com is here, but the case was not designed with a slot so you could access the SD card reader\/writer without having to take the case apart.\u00a0 User <a href=\"https:\/\/www.printables.com\/model\/565428-lilygo-ttgo-t-beam-supreme-case\">@Dekkia<\/a> has some very stunning modifications of TonyG&#8217;s design. But&#8230; In any situation where mesh networking is relied upon for coordination in public or semi-public spaces, do you really want your case to stand out making you a target?\u00a0 \u00a0Visibility and conspicuousness are not neutral properties in field mesh deployments.<\/p>\n<p>One person, user Ray J, created a fully transparent case, but the material used is really only good for looks and display, it is not a material you can hope will endure actual use. Here is his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=EMPFFG3Gdu8\">video<\/a>.\u00a0 I posted a question in the comments about the cost both on his YouTube and on printables.com page, he did not respond.\u00a0 I obtained a quote from PCBWay for a resin unit and with bank charges and tariffs, it came out to US $150+.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-446\" src=\"https:\/\/salemdata.net\/johnpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260120_084233_Tue-300x172.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"172\" srcset=\"https:\/\/salemdata.net\/johnpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260120_084233_Tue-300x172.png 300w, https:\/\/salemdata.net\/johnpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260120_084233_Tue-768x441.png 768w, https:\/\/salemdata.net\/johnpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260120_084233_Tue.png 770w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The case that I like and was well-reviewed is from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.printables.com\/model\/959441-lilygo-t-beam-supreme-ts2-case-by-alley-cat\/comments\">Alley Cat<\/a>; the designer did take into consideration the SD card slot, so I contracted with <a href=\"https:\/\/sculpteo.com\">Sculpteo<\/a> to print a nylon version of the case. This is my favorite case and makes the notion of trying to build a superior case seem futile.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-448\" src=\"https:\/\/salemdata.net\/johnpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260209_112019_Mon-300x154.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"154\" srcset=\"https:\/\/salemdata.net\/johnpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260209_112019_Mon-300x154.png 300w, https:\/\/salemdata.net\/johnpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260209_112019_Mon-768x395.png 768w, https:\/\/salemdata.net\/johnpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260209_112019_Mon.png 1251w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I obtained a special one-time only discount from Sculpteo that compelled me to place the order; I specified PA12 (a type of Nylon).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-447\" src=\"https:\/\/salemdata.net\/johnpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260207_084443_Sat-300x190.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"190\" srcset=\"https:\/\/salemdata.net\/johnpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260207_084443_Sat-300x190.png 300w, https:\/\/salemdata.net\/johnpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260207_084443_Sat-768x486.png 768w, https:\/\/salemdata.net\/johnpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260207_084443_Sat.png 1158w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A kind colleague I just met on the Spark Studio Salem&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/discord.gg\/kez8Mv6qQV\">Discord channel<\/a> offered to print the LilyGO case when I posted on the channel my concern that the LilyGO case files might not fit with the assembly that was shipped.\u00a0 He used &#8220;PLA&#8221; (polylytic acid) and printed the case front and panel at the same time and it took 3.5 hours.\u00a0 He printed the clip separately and that took about 1 hour.\u00a0 Total filament consumption: 39 grams.\u00a0 He estimates you probably could print 22 cases off a single spool which costs about $22\/spool, so the filament cost for a case is about $1.\u00a0 \u00a0I was initially concerned the LilyGO STL files might not fit current shipments. With a local test print, I confirmed that as of January 2026 US-warehouse units, they do fit.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/salemdata.us\/videos\/TBeam_case_compare_Feb_09_2026.mp4\">Here<\/a> is a video (7&#8242; 49&#8243;, 142MB) comparing the Alley Cat and LilyGO cases, the Alley Cat wins.
